DAVE JOHNSON: Bass guitar

First band “Bubbles and Co.” Released single on Pye label early sixties .Worked with Robin Trower and Mickey Jupp in band called “Jam “ This was the time between “The Paramounts “ and “Procol Harum” for Robin and before Micky went solo.
Also in the seventies toured with “Quasar” on the University circuit.
Also worked with London Society Band, performed for corporate and private clients (including royalty) throughout the UK, Europe and Middle East. Recorded several albums with different bands including The Blackheart Band with Ziggy Byfield. Played in West End shows such as The Rocky Horror Show, Jumpers and Grease.
Spent many years playing at top London night clubs including the Hilton Rooftop Restaurant and La Bussola. Has also played on cruise ships the Sea Princess and the Canberra.
Recorded “Yesterdays Dreams “ Album with Zig.

DEREK GRIFFITHS: Lead guitar

Was a founder member of The Artwoods, lead singer Art Wood was brother to Ronnie Wood of the Stones. They went on to release ten singles one EP and one album. Went on to tour with Lucas and The Mike Cotton Sound.
He then went on to join ex Zombie Colin Blunstone with whom he toured and recorded extensively. Subsequently toured with Dog Soldier a band formed alongside drummer Keef Hartley. Following this he flew out Australia to join Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. On his return to the UK he joined The Rocky Horror Show band, which is where he met Ziggy Byfield who was playing Frank'n'Furter and together they formed The Blackheart Band releasing several singles and an album.
Artists he has recorded with include: Chuck Berry, Paul McCartney, Dana, The Nolans, Harry Secombe, Rolf Harris, Alexis Korner. Eartha Kitt, Argent, Kiki Dee, The Tornadoes and many more.
His TV musical credits include: The Young Ones, Not The 9 o'Clock News, 3 of a Kind, Jasper Carrott, The Two Ronnies, Songs of Praise, Ready Steady Go and Lenny Henry.

CHRIS PARREN: Keyboards

Studied art at Cambridge with Pink Floyd, but came to London after being offered first job with an English version of Blood Sweat Tears in the early 70's. Connections there took him to West End theatre work with Jack Good and PJ Proby in Catch My Soul.
To broaden horizons even further, he was plunged into the red light environment of the Recording Studio where the BPM increased year on year. In this whirlpool of energy there were encounters with many...jingle sessions with John Bird, Billy Connolly...TV sessions TOTP's ,Old Grey Whistle Test, The Tube, Razzmatazz and the tv series Rock Follies. .World tours with The Strawbs, Jim Capaldi, Maggie Bell, ACDC.
Recordings with many and diverse - Brother Jack McDuff, Hudson Ford, Jim Diamond, Bobby Womack, Judy Tzuke, 3 Degrees, Eurythmics, George Michael.
Theatre credits include Hair andThe Rocky Horror Show.
The highlight of his career has always been his time as keyboard player with Ziggy Byfield's Blackheart Band.

KITTY McLAUGHLIN: drums

Kitty Jun-im McLaughlin trained at Jung-Ro Music Academy, Seoul, South Korea and began her musical career touring the Far East, Middle East and Europe as band leader and drummer with the all girl band “Black Eyes”.
After many years on the road, Kitty arrived in the U.K. in the late 70’s performing hundreds of gigs with the rock band “Angel”.

Unfortunately, a period of ill health in the 80’s curtailed Kitty’s music but led to her developing new talents as a painter, gaining a Masters Degree in Fine Art from Reading University. She has since exhibited extensively in the U.K. and as far afield as Sweden and Paris and has lectured at several universities.

Kitty continues to successfully combine her music and art and strongly believes that the connection between the two disciplines has awakened a new and exciting dimension in her creativity.

DAVID JONES: Musical director

David studied composition, arranging and conducting at Trinity College of Music, London. He won the major composition prize in his first year at the college. After successfully completing his studies, he worked as a freelance musician in London, combining teaching and conducting commitments with specialist work for Transatlantic Records, transcribing many original Jazz and Blues pieces from early archive recordings.

During 10 years service within the ministry he contributed widely to the music of the Salvation Army. He has many vocal and instrumental pieces to his name and continues to be widely published.

His career covers a wide area of music, ranging from education - teaching and writing - through to working in the commercial sector. He has been involved in a number of large recording projects at the Abbey Road studios and has even worked for the Pope originating and editing one of the Catholic Hymn books!

His wife Miriam is a piano teacher; they have one son, Dean, a music editor, who is emerging in his own right as a prolific and published composer. Both father and son are keen golfers!

David has been closely involved with the Virgin Warrior project since its inception, his friendship with ‘Zig’ going back many years.

 

SEV LEWKOWICZ: Studio host, recording engineer, keyboards and programming

Sev spent the earlier part of his career working in the music business as keyboard player, arranger and producer. In the early 80s he was keyboard player with Australian singer Duffo, and was signed to the same label as Zig Byfield. For several years during the 80s he played with chart topping band Mungo Jerry.
More recently he has released 2 solo albums as Nostromo, wrote played, sang and produced on a new album Echo by seventies prog rock band Gracious! as well as producing albums for other artists such as actress Sarah Miles (1999), and the band Tania's Kitchen (2001).

His theatre work as sound designer includes Fantastical Voyage (1997) Spittoon (2000) The Six Sided Man (2001) and I Am Who Am I (2003) for Company Gavin Robertson.
He worked as musical director and sound designer with Sarah Miles on her autobiographical show The Widow Smiles (1999) both at The Kings Head, Islington and in New York. He was sound designer for all three Dick Barton shows (1999 – 2001) at the The Warehouse Theatre Croydon, and was music composer and sound designer for their production of The Dove (2000). Other work includes Thunderbirds FAB (2001) UK tour and West End, and Blood Royal (2002) at The Kings Head, Islington.

Sev currently runs his own recording studio near Brighton where Virgin Warrior was recorded.

JEFF BANNISTER - singer

Jeff's professional music career began in the mid sixties as lead singer/keyboard player with The John Barry Seven, led by trumpeter Alan Bown. (John Barry ceased touring due to film commissions). Jeff toured and recorded with this band and backed named artists on many package shows; Brenda Lee, Billy Fury and Marty Wilde being the most memorable.
From the nucleus of this band, a legendary 60's soul band was formed, The Alan Bown Set and Jeff maintained the lead singer/keyboard slot until Jess Roden joined as frontman/lead singer who was eventually replaced by Robert Palmer.
Jeff toured extensively with these line ups, playing several Reading Festivals and appearing on all the major TV shows at the time, including Top of the Pops, Ready Steady Go and The Old Grey Whistle Test. He appeared three times at the Albert Hall, on various shows with this band. Jeff made prominent contributions to the songwriting on all five Alan Bown albums.
In the mid-seventies Jeff joined A Band Called O, which became known as The O Band. As keyboard player/vocalist he appeared on two of the band's most successful albums and wrote several of the songs. He regularly toured the UK and Europe with this band making appearances on TV in both territories.
At the close of the seventies, UK and European tours followed with Charlie Dore's Back Pocket and subsequently, Jeff embarked on a similar itinerary with the Gerry Rafferty Band when Baker Street was No.1 in the charts worldwide.
In the early eighties, Jeff toured America as keyboard player in The Jack Green Band, to promote the platinum album of RCA recording artist, Jack Green, ex T-Rex bass player.
Jeff then designed and wrote The Multichord for all Keyboards a chord book published by Music Sales in UK & USA.
In the nineties, Jeff joined blues band The Breakers led by ex-Ten Years After drummer
Rick Lee. Jeff's keyboard playing is featured on several tracks of the band's CD.
Three major UK tours followed in 1996/7 and 1999 with The Solid Gold Rock 'n' Roll Show, featuring Marty Wilde, Joe Brown, Eden Kane, John Leyton and The Vernons. Jeff was a member of the house band Rockin' Horse. He toured once again in the autumn of 2004 with The Solid Gold Rock ‘n’ Roll Show which this time starred Craig Douglas, John Leyton, Freddy Cannon and Showaddywaddy All these tours culminated with performances at The London Palladium.
Early this year, Jeff was invited by Zig to add vocal contributions to ‘Virgin Warrior’.


JULIENNE MILLS - singer

Having been a professional singer for the last six years, Jules has faced many live audiences and worked in a variety of venues from Social Clubs to Masonic Lodges.
Jules underwent formal training for both singing and acting some years ago, before becoming a parent and, now that her family has grown up, she enjoys the freedom to concentrate on her singing and acting career once more.
Participating in the recording of “Virgin Warrior” has been a privilege for Jules and her vocal contribution as Joan’s mother and other parts, can be heard on several tracks of the C.D.
